Media has gone on its highest holy shit alert for this Iran stuff. God, we love even a whiff of war.

 

And now the Iraqis want the US out.

 

It's not so much war as the idea the US can strike its perceived enemies without anything happening to us. There is still the dim perception that the war in Iraq didn't go so well. Of course, when it really went pear-shaped, US TV news stopped covering it. Too much of a downer to put alongside prescription drug ads.

 

PS: The media is also enthralled with the idea that "eliminating Bad Guy X" is always a US win, a cost-free improvement of the situation. It's absurd. Look at it through the other end of the telescope. If VP Pence or the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs or the head of the CIA (this guy was a little of all three) dropped dead of natural causes this morning, would it alter our strategic objectives in the Middle East, such as they are?
