I would wager Iran is perfectly content to settle back into the pattern of proxy fighting we've traditionally engaged in.

 

And to be clear: I would wager folding money Iran shot that airliner down, probably because of IFF failure or misinterpretation.

It would not be the first time such a thing has happened.

"Execute the office" means (among other things) to fill administrative positions.

Of course this failure is completely intentional.

This is among the issues which must be addressed in the presidential conduct and integrity amendments which must be passed in 2021.

 

Iran probably won’t be satisfied that this avenges the death of a man that many of their people consider to be a martyr. But, remember, Soleimani wasn’t the only military leader killed. Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, a leader of militias in Iraq also was assassinated. Those groups will want revenge and, though they are backed by Iran, Iran doesn’t have complete control over what they might do.

 

Whether Iran pushes for it or tries to hold them back, various of the terrorist proxies *are* going to hit U.S. targets. Soleimani was much admired and respected by their side. In fact, if Iran does decide to accept the status quo and makes no further attempt to avenge his killing, it may inflame these groups into doing it on their own hook.
