Belichick got plenty of rope, which Mangini and others didn't.
He was 42-56 his first six years in the league; 42-58 before Brady became starter.

Special circumstances, 3 Oct. Belichick was never really blamed for the Cleveland collapse, which was laid at Modell's feet for the move announcement. Also, he came into the Pats job with the understanding the Parcells Super Bowl team needed a complete rebuild, which Carroll was never given.

That is a bit misleading. He only had one season below .500 in New England. That was his first. His second season, Brady's first, he won the Super Bowl. All due respect to the greatness of Brady, that wasn't all the quarterback.

I think he was on the way to building something in Cleveland before word of the franchise move broke in 1995. The Browns were 11-5 and won a playoff game in 1994. I've heard people argue that the news of the move disrupted the '95 team and it all fell apart. Based on his success on his second chance, I'm inclined to believe that.

The bit about his former assistants not being able to replicate his success is just a theory. Just because his approach works in New England doesn't mean it can be replicated by another coach elsewhere.

In a sense, Belichick got screwed by circumstances beyond his control in Cleveland, then he was the beneficiary of Carroll getting screwed over in New England.

I hear you Michael, but the teams Belichick inherited were no worse than the ones his disciples did.

One hot take I heard today was that the Giants hired Joe Judge as a placeholder for Belichick once Kraft chooses Brady over Belichick.

Watch Cleveland '95: A Football Life sometime. No team could have competed under those circumstances.
I remember Belichick's Cleveland teams. They were boring as hell and he was in no sense done building there.
The numbers are what they are pre-Brady and post-Brady.

I'm amazed the Giants hired this guy before seeing what Belichick wanted to do. Kraft is jumping on the Antonio Brown crazy train, and I cannot believe BB wants to be around for that.

Now, if I'm the dipshit Giants GM, I'm singing the praises of whatever stiff walks through the door first because I know I'm gone faster than you can say Jack Robinson once BB is hired.

This WR coach hire makes no sense at all.

If you believe those experts, everyone else but Kraft wanted AB brought back.

Kraft vetoed Brown's return? Everyone else wanted him? I find that hard to believe.
