On a thoughtful column that has almost nothing to do with Trump and suggests a fixation on Trump - a specialty of most around here - is not helpful. You read it, you know that.

Generally, most progressives couldn’t care less about the struggles laid out in that piece, save the bone thrown to universal health care, which I think would help but not as much as we think as it relates to this problem.

So it's Moral Scold Alma today. Must be Socratic Alma's day off.

EDIT: Also, how did you quote my original post five minutes later? I changed it after like a minute since I wasn't 100 percent sure that's what he was going for.

Alma is Doc Holliday with 40 more IQ points. Both trolls here, both up to no good.

I apologize for all the stupidity emanating from so-called "Arkansans" these days. But it looks like the talking point on the right is forming.

    Lighten up, Francis.

I wrote that because I saw a friend had posted the column on FB. Then he got several replies from his MAGA friends talking about how great the economy is and how awesome everything is and "those people" need to quit doing drugs and they could take part in the awesomeness of it.

    Oh yeah.

"Progressives" are to blame. .... certainly not another round of tax cuts and the slashing of social services forwarded by the GOP.

Moral scold? No. The original post with the Doc reference is ironic. The column is not only really not about Trump, it also features people progressives couldn’t care less about, certainly didn’t care less about in the Obama presidency. They still don’t. Not really.

(Dunno on the second thing, I just quoted what was there.)

Better now than in 1968, when we could have elected George Wallace and (gulp!) Curtis LeMay.

I think the only way Yang gets the VP nod is if Warren gets the nomination.
I think the ticket has to be a man and a woman to help voter turnout.

I still think the winning ticket is Biden/Harris. They check a whole lot of boxes with the electorate.

Bet they think "those people" need to stop doing drugs but that we really need to do something about the opioid crisis because their one friend's son died from it.

I didn’t say they were to blame.

I said they didn’t care. And they generally don’t, because people in rural Oregon are not cool enough to care about. The reflected glory educated, privileged progressives get off of caring for them is not shiny enough to impress their other educated, privileged friends. Especially in journalism. I appreciate Kristof’s heart here and always have, but he represents a significant minority of the East Coast media.

Social services would help but the matter is far more existential than that.

Yeah, even though the column delves into the whole "personal responsibility" mantra, they went straight to it.
