2019-20 NFL coaching carousel thread

It isn't so much the coaching of Brady, but having someone to ease the transition for Brady - Brady could help players adjust to McDaniels, McDaniels could help players adust to Brady.
I do think its moot though - it isn't like the Pats have anyone breathing down his neck, it isn't like he or the team have a better shot at another ring if he plays elsewhere.

I doubt Brady would need anybody to help him transition. Maybe you could argue that he would already know the offense, but it's not like he has issues preparing.

Are there teams out there who are a Tom Brady away from a ring in a year or two? Who can afford him? Again - he's going to be 43 next season.
Now if Wilson, or Mahomes, or Watson blow out their knees this week and are lost for next year as well - sure make the move.

Brady wouldn't last 4 games in Seattle.

You know who had a good team and would have benefited from an upgrade at quarterback? The Patriots.

Is Brady that much of an upgrade, today, over Rivers, that he's the difference in the AFC without Brady on the Pats?

I would think the Brady move makes the most sense for a team that's looking to groom a young QB without exposing them to live fire. That's why the Dolphins make sense as a potential bidder. They can get said young QB with one of their many many draft picks. Brady will also help sell tickets, which Miami and the Chargers could both use.

Who's doing said grooming, the QB or the coaching staff? Situations like Kurt Warner/Trent Green or Mahomes/Alex Smith are rare. The vet usually wants no part of grooming anyone, especially if he feels he hasn't slipped.

They won't do it, but Buffalo. I think Allen ends up like Mitch Trubisky - a guy who seemed really promising one year, because his defense got him to a playoff appearance, but as time goes on, he just makes too many mistakes to be a viable starter.

For similar reasons, what about Tampa Bay? Winston puts up gaudy stats each year, but also throws around 30 picks, despite having really good receiving talent. (I'm not a huge Bucs fan though, so I have no clue how the rest of the team is.)

The Eagles fired their WR coach, so he's available for the next HC opening...

The Titans, perhaps, if they don't want to roll the dice on Tannehill. Since they're trying to transform Nashville into Foxboro South, that might be a good fit culturally as well.
The Broncos would be interesting. Drew Lock seems to be their QB of the future, but Elway has shown he's willing to jettison a young guy for a short-term high with a Hall of Fame quarterback.
I don't know if the cap situation would work, but if Ben Roethlisberger retires then the Steelers are intriguing. They're never terrible, clearly have no other long-range solutions at QB, and Brady might enjoy the chance to shove it up the Patriots' ass if their relationship has soured.

People really don't understand the whole "grooming" thing.

Brady (or whomever) doesn't have to take part in it or like it. He can be an absolute ass to the new kid and treat him like something he stepped in. He doesn't have to work at it or take him aside and show him techniques or point out that the Mike backer shading ever so slightly to one side means a blitz (or whatever).

But the new kid would be in every quarterback meeting with Brady. He'd hear everything the coaches tell Brady and most of the things Brady tells the coaches. He'd watch Brady practice every day, watch film with him during the week and go over the game plan with him before every game. The kid would see where Brady goes with the ball when certain situations come up, and would find out why when they go over it in the Monday meeting. The QB coach would make sure to tell the new kid as many of Brady's tricks and tips and reads as he knows.

Don't you think the kid would get something out of all that? Maybe a lot? Even if Brady completely blew him off, he'd still be mentoring him.

Staff. Brady sure as heck won't do it, although just watching him wouldn't hurt the prospect.
