2019-2020 NHL season thread

He has 34 goals this year, and only one player in NHL history has scored 50 in a season at 34 or older. He’s not aging like others in history. He has a shot.

 

Regardless whether he breaks the record or not, Ovechkin is the Greatest pure goal scorer this league has ever seen.

 

If longevity is a factor then it’s tough to 100% say he’s not. But I would have loved to have seen what a healthy Mike Bossy could have done with today’s sticks. Or even Brett Hull, who played a lot in a fire wagon era but also never got to play post-lockout. And played for Hitch lol

 

I’d take Mike Bossy as the best.

 

Does Ovechkin get to shoot on the same goalies?

 

No need, Bossy would thrive with a composite stick and today’s ‘tenders. He mastered the snap shot top corner snipes. Goalies dropping into butterfly position and leaving upstairs open would be easy prey. He would always be open with today’s lax holding and clutching. Both big strong guys just played different games and different systems.

 

Good point. And I suspect we could go on and on. It’s so tough to do these cross-era comparisons.

 

Bosses patterned goal coming down the right wing never happens anymore. And go compare the scoring numbers from his era to Ovechkins.
