And a language nitpick today for journalists: he did not "pass away." He died. Or was killed. You're not being callous or soft-pedaling it with either one of those.

Tiger says he didn't know until he came off 18, didn't know why people were saying "do it for Mamba." Tiger apparently asked to speak about Kobe on TV and is doing a pretty good job.

He also gave himself the nickname The Black Mamba, which is lame.

    Agree.
    The obit will mention Colorado.

The obit doesn’t run the day he dies, though.

NOT trying to start a snark war here. But when Clinton or Trump dies, do you ignore the fact they were impeached? If it would have been Barry Bonds, so you ignore the steroids?

Good and bad, it's all part of the first-day story. Warts and all.

At that point, having just known about Kobe for a few minutes, I wonder if he knew the full story including Kobe's daughter. If Balionis on CBS had asked about that, it might have been a very raw moment.

Let me clarify. Yes, the rape allegations/trial/fallout should absolutely be mentioned in any obit. But I’m not here for the RIP you fucking rapist takes.

Tiger has one child right around the same age, right?

CBS had a camera right behind Woods as he came off 18, and the mic caught LaCava telling him. All I heard was the word "helicopter" but that was enough.

Cannot be liked or emphasized enough.

"Died" is not an insult, a slur or an attempt to put anyone down. Simply a fact. Keep "passed away" in paid obits. In every other story, someone dies.

CNN has already played the "Kobe would have wanted them to play" card.
