No, I definitely get where you're coming from. Earnhardt's death resonated in my house, too.

This just feels like one of those cultural touchstones that crosses our usual generational, geographical, and socio-political borders.

    WTF about the headline?
    "known to all as Kobe"??
    Who talks like that?

Indeed. A lot of people who deal with life at its darkest often develop a sense of humor to match. @Vombatus, don't sweat the helicopter parent joke. At the same time, accept it's not gonna hit everyone the same way.

There is a lot of good new stuff out there. It's just not on pop outlets. Then again, I'm sure my music drove my parents crazy.

Don't know why I remember the news of Cobain's suicide breaking in the late afternoon or evening, but I do. At the time, I was driving a 17-year-old to see his doctor. I was shocked. He wasn't. A lot of the patients at the place I worked at the time liked Nirvana and saw a lot of themselves in Kurt Cobain. They were sad but not surprised by his death.

@exmediahack, Shane! Shaaaaane! Seriously, rethink leaving.

Still nothing on the Lakers’ website or Twitter or Facebook accounts. Not a word. So odd.

    A few thoughts...

Someone could have written Knickerbockers and she stopped when she asked herself who the fuck are the Knickerbockers.

Marshall football, but it is pretty crazy to think about all the tragedies in sports and entertainment over the years. Belushi, Candy, River Phoenix, Farley, Hartman...

Lesson from today if you still have a platform, wait a day before shitting on the deceased. No matter how vile you think they are, when they go, there will still be a lot of people who cared about them.
