    It’s a tabloid. They sensationalize. No one really knows how fast that is, so it sounds really fast unless you think about it.

    Now, perhaps they were flying 150 mph while dropping at 22 mph.

    This is true but even as a longtime sportswriter I’ve never shed a tear over an athlete’s death. It’s sad and the like when figures we like pass away, but I don’t know these people that well. They’re not family or friends. I’m sure other journos have closer relationships, but the fans...it’s weird the outpouring of grief and it’s of a piece with how they react when you dare to write negatively of their teams and favorite players. Get some perspective, people

    The chopper had no terrain awareness system nor black box.

    Whatever it was, it does not sound like it was at all modernized.

    But it's not just athletes. Open many threads of this site and see the outpouring of grief for musicians, singers and actors who have died.

    I too don't get the emotions when someone famous who we like dies. I'm sad for their families and friends, but it has no bearing on my life.

    The things that came out about Kirby Puckett after his retirement made it tough to get too invested in
