Are Republicans covering up for Trump or are the really covering up for Pence, Mulvaney, Pompeo and their own members who may have been involved?

Both, because they don't know what or who they're covering up for. They are basically betting that Bill Barr can prevent any more scandals from coming to light through corrupt use of law enforcement. Given the last three years, that's a risky bet. Trump's tendency to confess alone makes it a risk.

So the Iowa caucuses are Monday night. There will be three (!) different sets of results given by AP, first choice votes, final choice votes (candidates under 15 percent drop out but their supporters can vote for someone else) and delegates won. Given how close (and unreliable) the polls are there, we could have three different winners and three different "moral victory, momentum, comeback kid, etc." winners out of fewer than 10 candidates. Everybody gets a trophy!!
PS: Moddy, the latest Pew Research Center poll showed that Democrats were less than half as likely to think their candidate would win as Republicans DESPITE the poll also showing Trump down by 10 to an unnamed Democrat. Your sentiment is widely shared, but is based more on fear than evidence.

After 2016, there's plenty of reason to be afraid!

Yeah, a bad beat always leaves a mark. But it's neither good poker nor good politics to let it influence your thinking about the next hand. Don't get me wrong, Trump could still win. He's the incumbent in a country where people would always rather let things slide and the economy is OK to good for most. That's just it. According to all the fundamentals, Trump should be LEADING by double digits. Instead, the most pessimistic assessment for Democrats is that this remains a close election. That's because most people think Trump is an asshole. I don't think he's going to be less of an asshole the next nine months and two days. He is the fundamental screwing over his own campaign.

True but you also have to factor in voter suppression, gerrymandering and Russian hacking.

Some believe Donald Trump is punishment for America's past sins. But, that isn't right. He is an embodiment of those sins.
