He was unhappy to go there and the Grizzlies were fairly transparent that they wanted the first round draft pick from the Warriors and that he was not part of their plans.

Had they wanted to, they could have made him show up and instead felt he had more value by not getting hurt and/or showing that he was too diminished to help another team. At this point, it is a 3-way game of chicken because no team will admit that they want to trade anything of value for him and would rather play the buyout market with him, the Grizzlies have an asset worth nothing in about 48 hours but want to pretend that there is viable market and Igudola wants to incentivize the Grizzlies to cut him so he can choose his destination.

It does not appear that he is providing veteran leadership.

I’m enjoying how Ja Morant is not backing down in this spectacle. He’s got game and isn’t afraid to pop off when Steph Curry tries to troll him. Have to love that.

I pay zero attention to the NBA, but how did the Warriors fall to worst in the West?

    Durant left
Thompson is out for the year
Curry got hurt in game 3 of the regular season
Draymond is a very nice support player but can't lead a team on his own

And the rest may as well be a glorified G-League team.

They could probably be better - but those Curry and Thompson salaries are still being paid. And Kevon Looney has only played in 12 games. You don't want to blow up the way you play for a few more wins when you know you'll have those two key players come back. And I imagine the extra minutes the scrubs are getting will help them down the road.

That’s the downside of putting all of your payroll into 3-4 players. If a couple get hurt, you have a $150 million shit show.

And if its spread out - you probably don't have much of a team anyway. It's one of the downsides of the CBA - the salary floor - forcing teams to pay elevated wages to unworthy players and then struggling to deal them. You should at least have to start to qualify a $10m a year salary.

If the Warriors can get some real draft assets for Russell (which they will) that will add to their very high lottery pick. Curry and Thompson will be healthy next season. They will be back in the 50-plus win column.

Probably, but I think it depends what they do with Draymond. He’s not worth the deal he’s getting paid into his 30s and I’m not sure how good they’ll be with that trio and a lottery pick in a so-so draft class.

I think they'll let him walk. His game peaked three years ago. He'll be 30. He's more injury prone and is a good candidate to become fat and happy with money. He might have a hard market.
