Assistant HC Mike Tressel is the interim and the leading in-house candidate, but since the wheels have come off the program the last several years, staying in-house may not be the call.

Not to mention the specter of looming NCAA violations, if those turn out to be substantial. (You figure they have to be, to essentially force Dantonio out.)

Fickell at Cincinnati is apparently the hot outside name. Narduzzi of course was supposed to be the heir apparent but he's been wheel-spinning at Pitt.

Isn't this Matt Campbell's dream job?

I guess we'll find out now.
Sparty continues to be hampered that any prospective coach must come with the approval of, or football-family connection to, the Perles-Saban-Dantonio bloodline, or be labeled a reckless radical outsider (ie John L. Smith).

I suppose you could throw Pat Shurmur into the mix: would a P5 head coaching gig top an NFL OC job?

He'd have the attraction of being in the "family," but not involved in the program during Dantonio's tenure, so he'd be clean of any NCAA violations.

Odd how these scandals always seem to break after one or two disappointing seasons.

Obviously this brings up the question of what the AD, university president and board of trustees honchos were doing to allow that to happen.
