But here's what he said at the prayer breakfast this morning: "I don't like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong. Nor do I like people who say 'I pray for you' when they know that that's not so. So many people have been hurt and we can't let that go on."

And do it without saying socialism. The GOP says a rising tide lifts all boats. It does, except it takes a lot of water to lift a 100 foot yacht and a boat with holes in the bottom won't float. Telling a guy with 1 sandwich to give it to a guy without one is stupid. American Protestants are inherently selfish, it's the Calvinistic and Puritanical origin stories. The Catholics merely instituted slavery and mass conversions at the threat of death.

Approval of Bill Clinton and disapproval of the Republicans soared during his impeachment. The pre-impeachment status quo returned with a few weeks. The Gallup poll cited by Alma showed four percent more Republicans than Democrats, which is just not statistically true. Republicans were more likely to answer the damn phone and take the poll, just as Democrats were during Clinton's impeachment. Anyway, we're all smart and we know to use poll averages, right?

 

Dems still have a 7 point advantage in the generic Congressional vote. It isn't like they've suffered any backlash from people upset about their actions. People who have spent generations in Congress (like the Dems leadership) didn't go in thinking enough Rs would turn on the President. This was aimed at putting Senators on the record as to his conduct to be used in ads in November, betting their careers on a President with less than 50 percent approval. The safe seats were going to be safe regardless - the rest? It's a long way to November, who knows what a further emboldened Trump might say or do next?
