Get back to me when the Board of Trustees of the dominant state program doing the shifty maneuvering are also the Board of Michigan State, with approval of any spending over $100k.

Have they asked Houston Nutt yet? He'll take the job.

And have them on probation in three years. No, wait...

The board structures are all different, but Sparty's is shifty in its own jockocracy way.

They're *nearly* as unaccountable as Alabama's trustees, and that's saying something.

Hell, really, through the still-powerful influence of Saban on the search and hiring process, you could argue Alabama is interfering with the MSU football program.

I mean, how many other universities in a coaching search take into account the opinions of a former coach who himself abruptly bolted the program 20 years earlier under not-entirely-amicable circumstances (and had only one really successful season in five years as HC -- he was actually on the medium-hot seat entering his golden payoff season)?

Although for perspective this was the same university which also took into account for a decade the opinions of a former coach who had been FIRED 20 years earlier in the wake of an NCAA scandal, and whose career record was one game over .500?

Only thing to come of this is Mike Valenti has been spitting fire over this for a week.

I can imagine, and it's only gonna get worse, unless they pull off some kind of utterly unanticipated master stroke.

Especially in the wake of a Board of Trustee member essentially calling Fickell a “wavering flake.”

I was gonna say, probation might be an upgrade.
