    Probably true. I've heard mixed reports about Mel. I think it's more the timing than anything.

    CU statement just released:

    BOULDER--University of Colorado head football coach Mel Tucker has informed CU Athletic Director Rick George that he is resigning his position, effective immediately. George issued this statement Wednesday morning:

    "We are disappointed to see Coach Tucker leave," George said. "We are excited about the upward trajectory of our football program and we'll get to work immediately hiring the next head coach to build on our momentum and lead our young men. We're confident this program is on the verge of competing at the highest level and has the resources and support in place to do so for a long time."

    The search process for a permanent replacement is already underway.

    When I talked to him in late October, I guess the reports were that Tucker was running them into the ground at practice and they had nothing left. He also wasn't thrilled with the quarterback leaving the USC game to be checked for a concussion and then being tossed back into the game immediately, then sticking with the kid when he was clearly off.

    Yeah, notice quite clearly the absence of the usual "we thank coach Tucker for his efforts and wish him the best," etc etc etc.

    Not that Dan Enos was or ever should have been a candidate (for HC; his real level is probably QB coach) for the Sparty job, but it was fun to note that when Enos's name popped up in the conversation as a half-joking "last chance"/ " stranger things have happened," it was quickly slapped down with, "no way in hell, he has no shot, he is persona non grata because Saban is mad at him for jumping his contract."

    So after the Fickell fiasco, they moved back to Tucker, who apparently holds the Saban seal of approval. And then got him to jump his contract!!

    I agree, but give CU a chance to match it then. Don't out and out lie for four days.

    Again, the timing is really the worst part of this.

    He was only in Boulder for one year. He did seem to improve the recruiting.

    Well, the first mention (Friday?!?) of Sparty interest should have been a clue to CU that he was at least thinking about the opening. From the sounds of things CU probably wouldn't, or couldn't, have matched.

    Bieniemy was the Offensive Coordinator in Boulder during the disastrous tenure of Jon Embree, which lasted two years. In 2012 the offense ranked fourth from the bottom in yards per game in the F.C.S.

    As an alum I hope Bieniemy does not return.
