Joel had a sweet spot of about 4-5 years, but the 80s and 90s were crap.

John has killed it for decades.

    Such an underrated movie.

    67 copies of "Moby Dick".
    The movie or the book?
They made a book outta that?

Both. They both had a couple of solo things that were good but the reality is they needed each other. Had Lennon not died I wonder if overtures of peace would have been made. A Beatles reunion in the 90s with 20 years of musical evolution to draw from would have been amazing.

I like "I'll Wait" much better. Mostly for the drums.

This. What really made their songs pop was that Paul would write this romantic, sweet song and then John would drop in the acerbic bridge that blunted the saccharine. Their strengths were so complementary, and they knew each other so well that it seemed natural.

John's shooting really hurt me. The Beatles hooked me when I was eight. When Double Fantasy came out, I was really happy for John. He'd done the split, the Lost Years, became a house husband, seemed to have broken his addictions and was ready to emerge back into the music scene on his own terms. I didn't think much of Yoko having every other track on the record, but what the hell, it was new Lennon. He was at the beginning of a second chapter, and then he was dead. It was a bitter hurt, almost as though someone close had died.

I think that they'd have found a way to work together again, given time and space.
