Exactly this. It's a necessary evil to go down this route.

With all due respect, I question your use of the word "necessary".

I see what you're saying. How it was pitched to us was that what else do you go after to hold them responsible and to see that it doesn't happen again other than money? On the outside, yes, it looks like it's about a money grab. But in the inner workings, it's really not. I know I'm not articulating well about thisl

For us, we just didn't have the stomach to involve my parents (first-in-line survivors of the three passengers) on the front lines in what we felt would be a drawn-out, very painful process.

Understood. And you (and others) know this hits very close to home for me. I would clarify and say if the Bryant family is going to go down this road, suing the pilot and his estate has to be a part of the situation. Thus, the use of the term "necessary."

Agreed, they don't *have* to do this. But they have made the decision to do this to hopefully prevent something similar in the future. Our family was presented with a similar scenario. We chose not to. The Bryant family has. And with that comes actions that need to be taken from a law standpoint to move forward.

The pilot is dead, and the helicopter company hasn't made a flight since that sunday.

And @MileHigh , if I understand your earlier post correctly your lawsuit would have alleged a flaw in the plane, correct? That feels like a much, much more difficult argument to make than negligence on the part of the company in the Bryant crash (and one that would be much harder on your family).

I absolutely get it. Nothing you do will bring them back. But each family has to make these decisions. We decided against it. The Bryant family has decided to do it. I don't know what was presented to them or shown a path forward to have them make the decision they did. And I won't judge them either way.

But I do know they are in a fragile state. And I will say for it to come out today on the day of the public memorial is a bad look. But, again, I'm on the outside of *their* family. Everyone is different.

In the marketing of the plane, not the plane itself. That Cirrus touts and promotes this "safest" plane on the market because of the parachute device onboard. That there have never been any casualties in its planes.*

    * When the parachute is properly deployed. Which was not the case in my family's case.

It would have dragged out for many years with the same result: The loss of our four family members. And lawyers seeking to make money on their lives. Yeah, no thanks. We made the right call.

Would be more palatable coming from the other families.

Would it be possible that they have filed suit already but Vanessa's got the publicity?
