How did Tennessee ever go for Carter and Clinton twice - and produce someone like Howard Baker?

@heyabbott, you are way, way out of line.

Tornado survivor here. Not the latest one. I was sitting in an underpass when a tornado blew through the Gaylord Music Building on Briley Parkway in the 90s and felt pretty lucky that all I had to deal with was getting glass bits removed from my arms. Years before that, I was caught out with my horse during a relatively minor dustup outside of Lubbock. I bring this up because as dark as my sense of humor can be from years of working in clinical settings, and as easy as I find it is to laugh at my own experiences, I find it hard to laugh at a storm that has taken out a swath of the population here.

Tornados are terrifying. I'd hate to think that my last moments were spent with one bearing down on me. I think of the eight-year-old who lost her life earlier this week in Putnam County. So you're glad she's dead? And the other four children who won't live to see another birthday or dress up as their favorite characters for Halloween? You are a sad, small, little man.

I try to cut you slack because I understand only too well how grief can feel like you are one big joint with the collagen and tendons stripped away. That screaming, unyielding, unresponsive blackness that takes what you love is nightmarish. There's no reason for it. There's no fairness, no ethical center. It just takes and destroys without regard for the people left hurting. (Harlan Ellison wrote a much better description of this in an essay for the introduction to "Angry Candy." It made me feel sane to read how he put all of this into words. Look it up or not. I really don't care.)

Everyone is going through their own struggles right now. Not posting about mine is not tantamount to granting you tacit permission to use me as your personal punching bag on this forum. At this point, I don't know whether to block you or start punching back. It feels dirty to hit you when you're down, but at the same time, if I'm verbally shifting your lights, it means you're leaving someone else alone. Going to think about it. Maybe blocking you is best.

I apologize. I am taking it too far on the boars. But on many levels I find the followers of organized religion, especially conservative christians are destroying this country. My fingers have left this topic.

I got called by Rasmussen before the 2018 vote. I had a blast. She had her set of questions and I was to answer from one to five, an agree/disagree scale. So I'd give my five on Trump, and then explain what an idiot he was regarding the topic at hand.

I think she enjoyed it more than I did. She laughed a lot.

*edit* Called on my cell phone.
