A fair understanding of Kobe’s career would put him, at best, the 9th best basketball player ever. But between 10-15 All Time? Woody top 10 director of all time. That he was a writer director of over 40, nearly 50 movies makes him one of the greatest of all time.

    Hachette has cancelled Woody's book.

Yeah -- they're dwindling badly, and everyone involved has since apologized for working with him. He hasn't made a film that anyone gave a shit about in 30 years. He's a pariah.

The idea that he'll get the Kobe treatment is insane. Nobody likes Woody or his films anymore. Hell, I was a massive Woody fan at one point, but I think the last film of his I saw came out in 1989.

Can we agree that the nature of Bryant's death, his age and that his daughter and others were with him when he died helped magnify the "tragic" nature of the outpouring? The shock factor etc. The LA factor. By no means am I saying they'll rename award after Allen - and that he's far from the zenith of his career - I meant mainly in reference to the allegations in comparison to his life's work. I'd say he's similar to Roman Polanski. And yes, it makes a difference that the bulk of his career was before the allegations, as opposed to Bryant, where the bulk of his career happened after the charges in Colorado.

    A) Yes, the nature of Bryant's death is wildly different.

    B) No, the allegations versus life's work won't be remotely the same. Colorado popped up around paragraph 15 in a Kobe obit. The sex cases/allegations are in the opening sentence for Woody Allen and Roman Polanski. The people who will write their obits probably weren't alive when they were doing their best work. They are virtually without defenders.

Watch some Woody films over the past 15 years. Some are very good. Others meh.

For the record, I never understood Allen's popularity in his heyday. Always thought it was weird how his movies always seemed to having him hang around young women. The other difference why Allen was able to maintain a career is that the allegations against him were always within his family and never involved his professional life.

I wonder if Ronan Farrow could survive a journalistic endeavor aimed at his mother? Mia has led a very very interesting life.

Look, I'm sorry everyone thinks your uncle is a creepy perv. But that's the way it is. I guess he's lucky to not be black or he definitely wouldn't have your support.

This is bizarre and close to insane. It isn't 1971.
Woody Allen doesn't have 1/50th the popularity and supporters of Kobe Bryant.

I'd like to revise and extend my remarks. I wasn't aware of the allegations made about him molesting one of his kids when I wrote the above. All I knew about was the SoonYi stuff.
