I remember hailing a cab outside of the State Department in mid-2001 and having a black cabbie ask me how people at State liked working for a black man (Colin Powell). I was a little surprised that anyone would think we had even noticed his skin color much after all the media stories his first week, but when I said (truthfully) that Powell was popular because of how he treated career people, the cabbie's reaction seemed to include some skepticism along with satisfaction.

FYI, the stock futures are all limit down right now (longest limit down ever?), down 5 percent overnight. ... But looking at SPY and QQQ, the ETFs that track the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100, they are down in premarket trading close to 7 percent. If they hit 7 percent down after the open, it will trigger the first circuit breaker and trading will stop for 15 minutes. There are three levels on the circuit breakers with trading stopped for the day at a certain point. That would take an epic down move, though.

Right on cue, also, a statement from the New York Fed that they are upping the amount of money they are making available in their overnight repo operations. What started the parabolic move up in US equities last September, in the first place, because the overnight lending markets were seizing up due to the mess they had made. The arsonist is riding in on the fire truck again to put out the fire.

Oh, it's gonna be a long bad day at the markets. As always, the only sane thing for us non-institutional investors to do when chaos reigns is nothing.

I love that golfers wear gloves - white ones no less - it's the perfect haut monde affectation for that so-called sport.

Baseball players wear batting gloves. Football players wear gloves sometimes. Swing a golf club 100 or so times without a glove and see what your left hand thinks about it.

    • Doesn't bother me at all," Trump said when asked by a reporter if he's worried about the risk of having so many people stand so close together.
    • But there are currently no rallies scheduled, according to the Trump campaign's website.
Not in this quote but he also said it doesn't matter to the cult either.

500 swings with a tennis racket. No gloves. Occasional callus. :)

Back in the pre-WW2 days when the real money in golf was hustling rich people at their clubs, a safety measure for the wealthy was to shake hands with their opponents. If they felt calluses, the game was for small stakes only.
