I always felt Hurricane Katrina was the big trigger for the collapse 12 years ago.

    Ideas for the President.
A primetime address would be appropriate (not a rally, something from the WH, with graphics full of accurate info, tips, contact numbers, what you can do). Also - perhaps engage with other world leaders to brainstorm ways they can help this episode pass with as minimal impact as possible.
Uncertainty is really bad for the markets, Trump doesn't have a lot of credibility in the world anymore, so maybe there really is nothing he can say that would help things along - but there are things a normal President should do. Maybe have Pence do it.

Camera angle carefully selected to catch him straight on -- he's shaped like a rugby ball.
Look at any photos of him from the side -- his ass and gut both hang out two feet. Four hundred pound fat fucking ass.

The best advice for the "president": Stick a shotgun in your mouth on live worldwide teevee. The ratings would be awesome.

If Trump gave a speech would you believe anything he said, given his proclivity to go off script? He has been contradicting his own public health officials in press conferences.

    Market Volatility
Volatility in the market today triggered the first of three circuit breaker rules at 9:32 a.m. ET (a 7% drop of the S&P 500) and trading resumed at 9:49 a.m. ET. If the S&P 500 drops by 13%, markets will be halted for an additional 15 minutes. If the decline reaches 20%, trading will be suspended for the day.

Yes, remember that when the terrorist bombs go off.

Sounds like socialism to me. Whatever happened to free and unfettered markets?

I realize the breaks have more to do with the alogrithms that drive trading, which is a problem unto itself.

No worries. Look, as I wrote here previously, we were never, ever going to stop this from coming to the US. World financial markets were going to tumble regardless and travel/events were going to be massively impacted. That is not on Trump or any politician.

But what we could have had was decisive leadership in terms of a plan. We could have had a president whose job it is to be prepared and decisive, instead of rejecting briefings because it ran counter to his desired narrative. We could have been weeks ahead of where we are now in terms of preparation and testing. We could have a president who gives coherent and prepared public remarks. We could have had a president who didn’t view everything through the prism of the basest partisan politics and how it impacts his re-election chances. We could have had a president who cares about things other than the Dow, the number of reported cases and his precious poll numbers. We could have have had a president who doesn’t lie with regularity and treat everything as potential spin. We could have had a president who doesn’t wear campaign gear to a visit to the CDC, bizarrely talking time to praise his intelligence or mention impeachment. We could have had a president who doesn’t reward kissing his ass over competency in dealing with the issue.

By contrast, when Sandy happened, Obama went to Jersey and met with Gov. Christie. Understanding that the situations weren’t identical, but the administration gave unqualified support to the region. Obama didn’t view the storm through a partisan prism in order to make a GOP led state look bad and Christie didn’t spend any time blaming any democrats. Party was never mentioned. They were two leaders trying to guide their constituents through a tumultuous time understanding that being an American and a human being was more important that scoring partisan points.
