I have no idea why so many people don't understand that market economies don't imply outright anarchy, and that any amount of self regulation (made INDIVIDUALLY) implies "socialism."

This is self regulation that was put in place by the NYSE because they determined that it benefited the exchange's operation. Why does that sound like socialism to you?

Is it socialism if a welding shop puts in a rule that says that all the welders need to wear goggles? Or is it a business making its own rules that it thinks benefits its operations?

I'm totally missing the sarcasm, then. Sorry.

I took "whatever happened to free and unfettered markets?" as a serious question. ... calling out some kind of hypocrisy that doesn't exist.

It was a joke/sarcasm. Part of a larger discussion that comes up when capital C capitalists moan about government regulation hamstringing industry, Wall Street etc. yet having no problem going to DC for handouts, tax breaks, bailouts when the need arises. The markets do need structure and oversight. The markets depend as much on a sound government as the government depends on a sound market.

All I can think of is that it prevents computers from autotrading the market all the way to the sub-basement in minutes.

I'm thinking that this isn't a day to throw humor at Ragu about the markets.

The circuit breakers aren't a governmental regulation.

One thing Trump can do to restore confidence in the markets and reassure a jittery public: resign.

We’re all forgetting the most important thing right now: How is Doc Holliday’s 401K doing?

God, I'm tempted to pop over there with a quick "So, how's your 401k doing?".
