Is it wrong I’m hoping Gas Mask Gaetz passed Covid-19 to Trump?

So where we are at tonight. ... At the press conference earlier, Trump teased "very dramatic" fiscal relief, including payroll tax relief for workers. We'll get "details" tomorrow.

Equities and oil futures are up on just the hint.

No surprise. And exactly what they were hoping for.

But it's a ridiculous kabuki dance at this point because the House is controlled by the Democrats and they are not going to give him anything he wants. At best, they will try to corner him into a big spending program that funds all of their projects, and we get petulant Trump storming out of a room. More likely, he goes to them with, "Tax cuts for the people, it's urgent" and they come back with, "great idea. ... just undo the corporate tax cut so we can pay for it," and when he refuses, they can say, "See Americans, he isn't for you, he's just for big corporations."

Does anyone NOT think that is where we are headed now?

Is the payroll tax cut going to be an actual tax cut or just an advance that will fuck people over when they go to file taxes next year?

Oh, it's an actual tax cut. It's the portion of taxes that companies and employees pay to fund Social Security, Medicare and the other "insurance" programs. Not surprisingly, it's something Trump has long advocated for. This isn't a response to the virus. Not that cutting taxes or doing anything to allow people to keep more of their money is going to make them go to a concert or a restaurant if they are afraid of contracting a disease. This is Trump trying to be transparently opportunistic and use the virus to try to get what he wanted anyhow. Does anyone think he is really going to outmaneuver Nancy Pelosi on something this ridiculous?

We have very different views on policy, but on what's happening in real world politics Ragu and I are very close. The Democratic wish list is going to include automatic fiscal stabilizers to castrate future Republican Congresses.
PS: Bloomberg poli sci writer Jonathan Bernstein says Dems should write their dream bill and let Trump write the hotel part. Then put the whole thing in McConnell's lap. Ingenious!

If by whatever events the Trumpfascists capture both houses of Congress along with the WH, they'll abolish all of 'em within a month of taking office.

Wipe 'em out completely. Not another dime for anybody. The golden dream of the GOP for 85 years.

Nobody's supposed to breathe a word of it, but Fatfuck of course simply can't keep his mouth shut and gives it away. But they figure if they pull it off this time, nobody can ever stop them again on anything.

So that's just one more excuse to cut Social Security.

The payroll tax is stupid and insulting. As stated before, it’s a new reason cut safety-net programs. Evil shit in a crisis.

And people aren’t going to go out and spend the extra money to stimulate the economy when they’re scared of getting sick.

I want this breathtakingly stupid presidency to be over.

So lets cut a tax that funds Medicare and Medicaid at a time when people might get sick and need Medicare and Medicaid.

Can Kim Jong Un hurry up with the nukes already?
