Charlie Baker is in no way a Trumpist. The only Republican he could nominate who wouldn't be voted out six months later is himself, and even then it's not a good bet. The Mass. Republican party is less than one-sixth of all registered voters. He doesn't even need them. Your point that Warren is too old is your only valid one. It's a matter of debate, but it's a consideration. Opinion polls before Warren left the race showed Democrats consistently had a more favorable opinion of her than of the other candidates. She was everybody's second choice, which doesn't get you much in our system.

Wow. You know better than I do. But if a Republican governor appoints a Democrat to a coveted Senate seat, that would be one helluva story. And Charlie Baker would be dead before the ink dried on the letter of appointment.

If the Dems retake the Senate, it'll be by only a seat or two (barring a full throttle tsunami). Plus there are a couple blue dogs who can't be trusted not to defect on key votes.
The Dems can't throw away a Senate seat on the Vice Presidency or a cabinet seat. Any Senator for either position must come from an ironclad Democratic state.

Why? He doesn't care. He has no national ambitions. And without Baker, Mass. Republicans would have nothing, no statewide elected offices, no patronage, nothing.

He is in the last of a dying breed — the reasonable Republican (meaning one that I would vote for). But (super fingers crossed) the Dems take the WH and both houses, the time to get shit done is before the inevitable backlash and you can’t put a Senate seat at risk.

Harris got a fair amount of endorsements during her campaign from Georgian congressional representatives and Georgia has been more moderate in recent elections (see Stacy Abrams' campaign). An African American woman on the ticket could boost liberal turnout there and potentially make it a surprising flip. \

I think she'd also help in Arizona and North Carolina, though I'm not sure North Carolina is ready to flip quite like Arizona is.

But let's be real - whoever Biden picks, he's going to have to do the heavylifting where it counts - Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. He's going to need to convince voters there, not his VP.

I honestly was surprised what a big deal was made of Biden saying he'd pick a woman running mate. I always figured it was a foregone conclusion. The bigger story was that Sanders said he'd choose a progressive woman, rather than saying someone more moderate to balance things a bit. And there are no women in the Senate or governor's offices who would qualify. Perhaps Warren (he did say "maybe a few years younger.")

Is there even a possibility that trump can get his shit together and be presidential for a couple of days?

That’s why it keeps coming back to Stacy Abrams
She’s young, she’s smart, the progressives would love her and you wouldn’t have to give up a valuable senator’s or governor’s seat
Plus having an African American woman as veep is a pretty good idea since they would be how Biden got elected in the first place

Uncle Joe can get the old whites and African-Americans out. We need someone to get the youngs, especially the African-Americans youngs out.
