Switch a few games to Monday (Labor Day) afternoon to make a hole for the Derby and the 500.
Not that the NFL has any great concern for the Derby and the 500, but everyone involved will want to maximize teevee viewership if possible.
There'll be some conflicts; that's the way it is.
Hell, if they planned things right, they could run the Derby during halftime of a football game.

NBC has both the Derby and Sunday Night Football, I believe.

Slot the Derby for halftime of the 4:30 games on "other" networks. Then segue the post-race wrap up right into the SNF pregame.

Downs would probably pitch a bitch about running the Derby on a Sunday, but guess what: everything is different this year.
