It's funny how that feels like an accomplishment now, isn't it? We made an early Costco run and they had it. They only had one size of one brand and allowed only one purchase per account. I'm not sure how this is going elsewhere, but the county I live announced restrictions on hoarding yesterday along with declaring a state of emergency. Costco seemed to be taking that very seriously. My local grocery store, not so much. They were stripped clean of paper products almost immediately this morning.

I went into a Target yesterday and it limited TP (before running out) and hand sanitizer to one per customer.

They limited it to two packs, though I only bought one four-pack because I have four rolls at home now. Just wanted to be safe? That should be enough to last me for a few months.

Virginia's government is not closing its bars and restaurants, but the grand majority of them are self policing and going to takeout/curbside by the end of this week. Bar managers and GMs are basically telling their employees to remove half the barstools so only a certain amount of people can gather there, and gather at a safe distance from others. At some point, though, does it make sense to even stay open if you're serving a handful of patrons a day? Seems like it would be more cost effective to shut down and save utility costs.

Virginia also has no "bars" because all bars have to have a significant food presence to operate under ABC laws. So there's that dynamic at play too.

We were able to ask Costco employees what they had while waiting to go in. They also allowed people to enter four at a time at five-minute intervals to slow the chaos.

They told us they just don't know what they will have in each day. The last few days it was paper towels, but they didn't have those today. Today it was toilet paper. Maybe tomorrow it will be hand sanitizer.

It's not about compassion. It's about what you'd expect rational behavior to look like. If you are delinquent on your rent and there is a solvent tenant ready to move in, of course you'd expect a landlord to evict you and rent to the other person. But we are now in an economy where lots of places are going to be shuttered until this passes. If you are a landlord in that situation, you don't have much choice except to wait it out like everyone else along the economic chain. And your incentive is to stick with the tenant that in normal times always made the rent, rather than get rid of that person, because when things get back to normal, you then risk having an unknown new tenant who might not be as reliable with the rent as what you used to have.

    Nope.

McConnell should make it a daily double. That fucker has been worse for America than Trump.

I remember when I got my first apartment after college, I bought a jumbo pack of TP, because why not? I had that stuff for nearly two years. Helped it was one ply but couldn't get rid of that pack.

I don't know how much people are using that much TP.

NC shutting bars and restaurants other than takeout. Hope the banks stay open. Still have 16 savings bonds I want to redeem (they only let you do 6 per day).
