I broke my leg in '94.
Before I hit the deck, I was looking at the side of my foot. I knew it was broke.
While I was on the ground, someone asked if I was OK. I said, "No, I just broke my fucking leg."
Went to the ER. The x-ray showed the break. The x-ray tech said, "It's broke." The attending said, "It's broke." They put a cast on me.

About six weeks later, someone in another town read my x-ray and said, "Yep, it's broke." I got billed for that.
    No shit.

    That's what's wrong with healthcare.

They do. The difference, though, is that Canada guarantees healthcare for all of its citizens. It may be single-payer, like Biden’s plan, but it doesn’t leave anyone without coverage. That’s what makes it universal.

It’s difficult to believe that so many still find it acceptable to continue with a healthcare system that leaves millions without coverage. The absurdity of that system has been on full display this week.

CVS Gets a Booster Shot From Aetna as Revenue Soars

People are scared of having a REALLY serious condition and being told to wait X amount of weeks/months for treatment.

Yes, you're covered . . . eventually. If you don't die in the meantime. Kind of like being out of toilet paper today, going to the store to get some, and . . .

Is that a valid concern? I don't know. But I do know if we eventually take that leap, there's no going back.

Hell, in January I called to make an appointment for annual physical so I could get my Lisinopril prescription refilled. I had about three weeks of pills remaining. Earliest availability was April 16. So they had to give me 10 weeks more of pills to fill in the gap.

But what if I was experiencing high BP for the first time --- as I was in 2013 --- and didn't already have a prescription that could easily be refilled? I would be mighty stressed --- likely making my BP worse --- having to wait 13 weeks to see a doctor.

Those are valid concerns but the point remains that you have to already wait for care under our currently broken healthcare system. You may have to wait with M4A, but I would be surprised if you couldn’t get in to see someone in an emergency, as you can now.

Studies have shown that a substantial number of lives would be saved each year with M4A.

Medicare For All would save $450 billion annually while preventing 68,000 deaths, new study shows

I'm curious how they would classify "emergency." In my situation I had a BP one morning of 189/108 and just kind of felt like my body was on fire. It wasn't a "call the ambulance!" emergency but one in which I REALLY wanted to see someone as soon as possible.

It's the "I need to see someone about this" and wondering how much worse "this" could get before you can see someone that has me curious.

I enjoyed the debate and would like to think this would put an end to audiences at such things. I would also like to think that the current health crisis would help the argument for Medicare for All - or at minimum make more people understand that everyone having healthcare is of critical importance to the national security of all of us, at all times, preferably BEFORE these events instead of AFTER such a public health emergency is identified.

Now the Ohio governor is the latest to ignore a court ruling that went against him.
Sometime between now and the end of January 2021, there will be pitched battles in the streets of America.

Ohio primary called off at last minute due to health emergency

I still have hope that it doesn't get that bad, but if DeWine gets away with this unscathed, it does seem to help open the door for President Trump to try to pull the same thing if he thinks he might lose in November.

Considering who typically staffs polling stations - I don't have a problem with a state postponing a primary at all. Why more states don't adopt vote by mail is beyond me.

    North Carolina's 9th District.

The North Carolina State Board of Elections held an evidentiary hearing in February 2019.[2] On February 21, the board unanimously voted to call a new election because of fraud by Republican operatives.[3] Several Republican campaign operatives have been indicted for their role in an illegal ballot harvesting and ballot tampering operation. In addition to illegal collection and handling of ballots, ballot tampering was admitted in witness testimony, including filling in blank votes to favor Republican candidates. Harris declined to run again. The state legislature passed a law requiring new party primaries.
