Has there been a good written story yet about the NBA's testing? Like, my assumption is that they got all of those tests... because they asked for them first. Like, they were the first league to have players with positive tests, and from there, they have a valid reason to test everyone who crossed paths with Utah.

I ventured out on a food run today and a couple of things caught my interest.

First, I was driving by a strip mall I never really pay attention to and noticed a long line leading to the door of one of the shops. I slowed down to see what the place was and saw that it was a gun store.

Later, I parked and was about to get in my car when I saw a woman try to parallel park in front of me. She was apparently watching other cars too closely or something because she backed into me. It was barely more than a tap and my car suffered no damage. The problem is she was still trying to park and did it again. At this point, I got out and yelled to get her to stop. I walked around to the sidewalk, far from her car, and she said she was calling the police. I guess I'm a bad guy for yelling and some idiot who backed into my car twice.

At that point I was stuck because I didn't want to leave the scene of an accident, however minor it might be. The police showed up very quickly and I told them my story. While one went to speak with the woman, I was chatting with the other. He chuckled when I told him about the line at the gun store. I asked him how things had been for the police. He said they are getting a lot of medical calls. They are also getting a lot of domestic disturbances, most of them fueled by alcohol. I imagine tempers are getting short and they probably thought mine was among them, which is why they got there so quickly. I can only imagine what that woman told them.

I do not envy the police in their work these days. Because no one was hurt and no damage was done, we all went on our merry ways, but I imagine that quite a few situations like that one are not being resolved as amicably.

I really need to stay home until this shit is over.

Novas were actually pitched as "economy cars" among the GM lineup of the mid-70s, and compared to the land whale Buicks, Pontiacs and Oldsmobiles, they were.

No. This was a carryover reaction to the first pro sports positive. When Gobert's positive was announced, the state of Oklahoma used sixty of the state's one hundred available tests to test both teams. That's what he was expressing anger over, that privileged status.

One of the great car names. "No va" is "doesn't go" in Spanish.

Johns Hopkins: U.S. has passed Spain and has the third-most confirmed cases, behind China and Italy. Deaths here surpass 300.

In the mid or late '80s, Chevy started making the Novas as basically duplicates of the Toyota Corolla. I had one of those Novas for a long time, not a decade, but more than five years. One of the best cars I've owned (Note: a 2004 Corolla was actually the best car I ever owned).

My first car (1979) was a 1975 Olds Omega, a Nova in fancy trim, then my next car ('83) was the real deal, a '78 Nova. Both with straight six engines; easy to work on. Both rusted out when they got to be 7-8 years old, but they ran like pack mules for years.

PS: I'm currently driving a 2005 Jeep which I bought new, so it's now 16
years old. It's got a couple little spots of rust on the edges of the door panels. About as much rust as was on the GM cars I bought in the Eighties that were 2-3 years old.
