Learning To Be Zen During The Plague

Do you cry at cheap sentimentalism in films, too?

 

Always. Hallmark ads. Olympic opening ceremonies. Vets coming home to their kids.

 

I only cry if they earn it, like the end of It's a Wonderful Life.

 

Say what you want about the Internet - the amount of trash out there - to be comforted by a message from a stranger in Germany during this astounds me
After 9/11 - "We were all New Yorkers."
After Katrina - We all supported New Orleans
Coming together to support victims of some catastrophe to help make things better is a natural response.

This - we're all affected to a degree. We're all reaching out and comforting each other to some extent. Nobody will be doing telethons for Italy or China, or wherever - it's up to us all to reach out and support our own various communities - like this site has helped me deal with it.

 

Everyone should carry his or her own pen. Courtesy pens are disease vectors.

 

Lighting a decorative candle - whether scented or not, is really remarkably zen.

Also plan to listen to the ten greatest symphonies of all time when I do my daily reading. Beethoven's Eroica is now crossed off the list.

 

For whatever reason this made me laugh thinking of what may be to come in week 2 as the walls start closing in. Man, that was such phenomenal season of Real World.

 

Trying to be Zen, but Sporcle is not working at the moment...

Oh there are various lists on the web - a few consensus choices - I'm trying not to repeat composers.

The ones I've listened to so far, usually twice. And I prefer YouTube just so you can see them being performed.

I had my first plague-related Holly-Hunter-From-Broadcast-News cry.

I accidentally jammed the door closed on the extension cord where we'd been working on the yard.
I told my mother I would have to push the door open from the outside and to not get next to the door.
So she got on the other side of the door and told me to turn the knob.

Me: Mom, move so I can open the door.
Mom: Just turn the knob.
Me: Mom. Please! Move!
Mom: Just turn the knob.
Me: (screaming like a Harryhausen monster) IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DOORKNOB!!!!
Mom: You are so dramatic.

She moved. I got the door open. Then I cried.

Going to do deep breathing now.
