The question to ask the President is simple:

“Exactly how many deaths are OK, to ensure the economy survives?”

Go ahead, you narcissistic piece of shit. Do it. Even your sycophants will see through it.

The question can also be turned around - what's the minimum number of lives that need to be saved to warrant shutting down the economy? Surely it is some number greater than one, or else all of us would be clamoring to lower the maximum speed limit to 25 (a 5 MPH decrease in posted speed limit is associated with an 8 percent decrease in traffic fatalities). So what's the number? Are we supposed to shelter in place for the next year until a vaccine is developed or herd immunity is achieved? If not, that's going to result in some lives that are lost. What's your position?

I'm going to yield to the Doctors and Virologists on this one.

I don't trust that the President is considering anything other than the sinking Dow.

Why do we need a deficit-funded, $2 trillion drunken sailor "stimulus" bill, if we can open the economy and return to normal in 2 weeks? Never heard an answer to that one.

The doctors and virologists can't answer that question. They aren't concerned about the economy. They might know less about it than you or I. They can tell you how many deaths to expect given certain thresholds of precaution, but that information needs to be compared with economic ramifications of those precautions. Somebody has to synthesize the two sides and make a decision.

What scares me is wondering how bad the government can get. Will we have a societal collapse? Where are the grownups? So many people seem just fine with swearing fealty to Trump. Do I need an escape plan in place even if it's the worst possible alternative? I don't think I've ever seen more evil people in power in the US. Ever. Somebody has to be having a Saul of Tarsus moment. How can they live with themselves? Seeing people I used to share a press box and talk sports with becoming so angry and hateful and so very focused on this one track where it's them versus the world makes me feel dizzy and sick. I'm getting lightheaded writing this.

At what point do we snap out of this and go back to normal? Maybe wanting a return to normal is that feeling of hiraeth for something we only thought was real. I just want this to be over and for us to wake up and heal.

Dow closes down 582 and it's no big deal. The new normal.
