President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

I'd like the Lt Gov. to tell us how long we have as a country if we don't do as Trump says. How long can Amurrica last in stay-home mode? Does he think we're going to lose our country and our way of life if we do this two more weeks? One more week? How long before people 70 and older have to decide whether they are willing to sacrifice themselves?

This is a moment of reckoning for the country. Their klan put a deranged despot in the White House and they now seem prepared to go all out and admit it: They believe in causing needless death in order to save themselves a few more weeks of inconvenience.

There are those who believe both sides are equally culpable. You know them. They think calling Trump nasty names is the equivalent of implementing policies that cause physical harm.

They claim moral high ground. They claim to be defenders of life while they advocate for the death penalty and for policies that would jeopardize those who need protection. They believe government exists to serve the interests and the portfolios of the wealthy and to do nothing more. They do not believe government should concern itself with helping people in general. And these cretins claim to be the only morally upstanding citizens in the country.

 

You are completely underestimating how utterly disinterested the right is in protecting the health of average Americans. Their only desire is to continue to line their pockets and own the libs.
Once the death rate get into the tens of thousands, we’ll start hearing how it’s China’s fault and also the fault of the dead who were too unhealthy to begin with.

 

If you think we are yet to reach this point, you haven't been paying attention.

 

I realize Jamie Dimon is recovering from heart surgery, but where are the other titans in all of this? Whether what the President is planning is good or bad - shouldn't they be chiming in one way or another? Or are they letting Trump be the front guy for this because they smell another government bailout coming that will allow their companies to become even more profitable when this is over?
And in case the Trumpist haven't realized it yet, the economy, like public health - is GLOBAL no matter what you say. Asia gets a cold, we all get a cold, Europe tanks, we all tank. You really want to be nationalists, ban mult-national corporations from doing business in the US. You want to be in the NYSE, don't do business outside of the US. I just don't see the point in trying to build the stock market back up if other countries are still reeling.
My plan would be 1. Shore up unemployment 2. Get a good read on the international health and business situation and if it takes more time before you have a firm idea - wait. 3. Craft a plan to keep businesses alive, whether its with financial aid, no-interest bridge loans or banks relaxing credit terms.

 

Right. But what I’m saying is that the death toll will be too high to return to business as usual. The administration only declared a state of emergency because of societal pressure and things will soon be so bad that even an administration that has no regard for human life will be confronted about how returning to “normalcy” so quickly will conflict with its re-election campaign. Let’s wait and see.

 

If the death toll starts rising into the tens of thousands and beyond, think for a second how widespread gun ownership is in this country.
Almost all of those many many thousands will leave people behind. A goodly percentage of them will own guns.
It's one thing to get pissed off and shake your fist at the teevee or typing shit on the internet because Trump is a syphilis dripping 450-pound daughterfucker. Big deal. But it's a whole different deal if you just got home from burying your 68-year-old mother who was hale and healthy two weeks ago. Might be time to unlock that cabinet.

 

I read something earlier, but darned now if I can find it, that there is a possibility the virus itself - the very structure of it - could weaken.
