I will say in my own defense that he has mood swings in his Presidency when he does appear to be trying to be quieter. I think now they just coincide with depressive incidents, but they do happen. Don't last long.

The people who thought he would sit back on his throne and let the advisers do everything were being stupid. You don't put that kind of power in a man's hands hoping he won't use it. And yes, I was saying that the idea was idiotic during the campaign, so this isn't hindsight.

You don't have to defend yourself.

On one day in November, before our long national nightmare had even begun, you said something like, "Hey, he's been fairly quiet since election day. Maybe this won't be as bad as the horror show I am fearing."

    That's not damning.

And it certainly doesn't make the case that anybody who voted him could have reasonably thought they were flipping a coin. Maybe a lot of people didn't give a shit, and they were willing to hand over the presidency to a dishonest douchebag, but it's not like by election day 2016 anyone who didn't live under a rock couldn't see what they were voting for.

I read what he quoted from you, and what stuck out wsa, "I have much anxiety about Trump and especially his dark side of grudge collection and revenge obsession. But I will say he seems like he is attempting to dial himself back a bit."

You (and everyone else) clearly knew exactly who and what Donald Trump was. I have no idea how that equals "roll of the dice." Unless it's a one-sided die.

I was thinking back to 9/11 and am remembering how economic activity slowed all on its own account because people just didn't feel like going out and doing or buying anything for some weeks. They were just too sad, angry, frightened, etc. Demoralized would be the closest word I guess. That memory is why I think it's ridiculous for Trump to even try to get people back to work, out shopping and eating in restaurants, etc. They just won't do it. Let's take sports. It's obvious to all of us that MLB, the NBA and NHL are looking at a June 1 re-opening at best. But suppose there was a ballgame in your town on April 1. Would you go? I sure as hell wouldn't. Suppose some CEO forces his department stores to reopen and in some town somewhere a couple of his workers then contract the virus. That chain's store traffic would go to zero in a hurry.

For someone who likes to pound home the need for taking personal responsibility, you sure do like to give your fellow Trumpers a pass when it comes to their being responsible for the disaster they ushered in.

By doing away with CDC recommendations to flatten the curve, they'd just cause a whole damn lot of us to stay self-quarantined for the next year as we watch infections, hospitalizations and deaths increase in the coming months.

That's because I try to distinguish "Trumpers" from people who happened to vote for the R candidate because it's what they always do.

Is everyone on this board a Biden fan? You sure weren't a few weeks ago, when he polled a whopping 15.5% in the sj.com pre-primary poll, edging out Klobuchar for third place. Were you a Clinton fan? Or did you vote for the person you were stuck with from your party?
