COVID-19 doesn't have a conscience. It doesn't care if you're Democrat or Republican. It doesn't care if you live in a mansion or a ghetto. It doesn't care if you're urban or rural.

It's coming. It's a Cat 5 hurricane aimed straight for all of us, except it takes lives instead of property. You can assume you'll have adequate medical care or be in that low-risk group, but there are no guarantees. Whether you're in the 7 percent group or the .1 percent group, death is still a real possibility.

No matter what politicians in Washington, Atlanta, Tallahassee or my county are doing, I realize I have little control over whether I live or die in the next few months, only that I can do my best to not put myself or my wife in situations like Party Zero. But who knows if I already have? That's the scary part.

Terry Blount had a great point on Facebook today. You can survive bankruptcy or homelessness. You don't get a second chance if you die.

    Be smart. Stay safe.

In all seriousness, we're in basically day five or six of what's going to be a three-week shutdown, and everyone is already itching to say fuck it and quit with the social distancing. I don't see how this country will make it. We're not built for this.

Again, I am not able to speak to anywhere but my own area, but that is NOT what people in Boston are thinking as a whole, anything but. And I wonder how many of those saying fuck it online are actually willing to do so with their own meat sacks.

    Will they?

The fear I smell in people is loss of income, not gain of infection.

Congress isn't haggling over giving everyone ventilators, testing and free treatment --- it's haggling over who gets what money.

We had a plumber here this morning, and after he left I went around with Clorox wipes and cleaned everything he touched. And even doing that, I wasn’t very happy he was a little close at times. Our neighbors, in their own house, could hear our pipes talk in whale every time we flushed the toilets. First world problem, but it was driving us bugshit, increasing my family’s stress level and making us snippy with each other. For our mental health, we needed it taken care of.

We might not be built for it, @Cosmo, but we’re going to have to get used to it. I’m very fortunate that my wife has a great job that she’s in no danger of losing, and we have good health insurance. Starting this week, she is working from home for the foreseeable future.

Except for the plumber being here today, we’re not planning to have anyone else over — not even family for our youngest’s birthday party in a couple of weeks.

Perhaps I need to stop reading social media and reddit and what not, but there are posts up every day of people frustrated and pissed that their offices won't close. Probably just a small slice of the mindset, but at least probably somewhat representative.
