You are 100% correct. People think they are invincible, and if they're not they'll just drink fish tank cleaner and cure it.

Are these people who could theoretically work from home?

Or are they willing to say, "Send me home. Don't pay me. I don't care. I just want to be safe" ?

Right now I can work from home, albeit at slightly less efficiency than my two-monitor setup in the office. But if my power or internet goes off, I'm not calling in sick. I'm hightailing it to the office (as long as it's open). It underwent five days of cleaning last week, and last time I was there (Saturday) there were two other people on the entire floor.

I just had to go to the grocery store to get some stuff for my folks.
I walked in through the automatic door, picked up what they needed and placed it in the bag I brought in with me, went through the self checkout, back out the open door, hand sanitized when I got in my truck and washed my hands when I got home. I was never probably within 12 feet of another person.
I don't feel that was out of line. I was able to take care of what I needed to and still avoid danger unless the thing has become airborne.

We are having someone come this morning to give a quote on a hot water heater. Don't love it but with all of this and the fear of further lockdown I'm afraid the thing is going to break, original in a 20 year old house that I've been meaning to get taken care of for eons and haven't, and then we won't be able to do anything about it or it will be very difficult to. We're also having our roof and other work done on our house from a bad hail storm last year starting in two weeks. At least there they are all outside and won't interact with us. I've definitely second guessed both but am moving forward, especially out of possible necessity with the water heater.

It's definitely interesting times. We are also pretty stable and other than a preschooler who just doesn't get why he can't go anywhere are all handling it pretty well. My wife is still going in at the moment -- in health care (physician), but not directly involved with the situation at the moment but could be if it got really bad here, although as I said the other day here her office did have a staffer as a confirmed case. So we're definitely not immune here.

I hear ya. Original 22-year-old water heater, refrigerator and oven. Bit the bullet and installed new HVAC last year. But still have a lot of things on borrowed time (besides my cars).

Recently replaced a lot of that stuff. Not cheap.
Furnace alone cost us $10,000 big ones.
We have been saving for the roof which I think would hold out another winter if need be.

Virtual playdates for the little ones. I have been amazed that they pick right up where they left off.

Trump is going all-in on this Fox News "town hall" about getting back to work ASAP. He cited car crashes and said we don't shut down the nation due to those.
