    Refusing to test?

They were ordering people entering the country from abroad to be tested way back when the US was still in the "hoax" stage. Russia started testing en masse in mid-February, especially at airports and focusing on travelers from China, Iran and South Korea. Where they may have fucked up was not testing people arriving from EU countries immediately. Instead, they took temperatures and imposed two-week quarantines on those arrivals.

They closed their 2,600-mile border with China on Jan. 30, when the only thing on America's minds was the Super Bowl.

The country is fucked up in so many ways, but they were soooooooo far ahead of the US on this that it's inarguable among the sane.

This story needs to pivot faster than a hurricane toward GA, LA, maybe other southern states. NYC has been hit hard, and that's heartbreaking, but it's also one of the greatest cities in the world, with some of the best medical facilities and doctors.

Wait til this rolls full force into some of these 100,000 person towns in the south. I just hope it doesn't. The story is there, now. NYC will stabilize. You could lose 1000s in Louisiana.

    It's been airborne.

I posted this now two-week old interview with the director of University of Minnesota's CIDRAP (which has been separately mentioned a couple of other times) way upthread. Key quote below and video link provided.

"People want to feel like they're doing something, so we tell them often to wash their hands to prevent this disease, and I feel like we're not being honest with the people. The data, and we've looked at this very carefully, is just about breathing air."

Also, the WHO recommended aireborne precautions a week ago.

Places like The Villages and Century Village in south Florida are going to be decimated like a California wildfire.

    Your math is wrong.

19 days until Easter and assuming it doubles every three days.

    March 27: 100,000
    March 30: 200,000
    April 2: 400,000
    April 5: 800,000
    April 8: 1.6 million
    April 11: 3.2 million.

... and with a 1 percent fatality rate, 32,000 deaths.

Jackson and I went to the park to throw the ball and field some grounders.

In “locked down” Virginia, the basketball courts were crowded with people playing games.

    We’re so fucked.

They removed the hoops at the courts here.
