At this point, are we not to the point where a true "test" isn't necessary?
If patient exhibits this, that, and the other symptom, then they've probably got it. Go ahead and treat accordingly.

The psycho fascist President of Brazil, Bolsonaro, gave a speech saying the virus was nothing unless you were over 60, except for him because he's a superman. Meanwhile, the gangs of the favelas of Rio began enforcing their own lockdown last night.

Yes and no. If we had tests in quantity, the way we do flu tests, we could test and know for sure. The statistics would actually tell us something. If the patient tests negative the PPE precautions are a bit less stringent - you always want to be careful, but this virus is a killer, so as we are now everyone has to max PPE every time. The other thing you have to remember is basic sterile procedure. If someone is in a room with an infected and needs to go get something, is called away for any reason, they have to take off and red bag every bit of the gear. When they re-enter the room, they put on another set. Every time.

I saw a very good idea that we need to find out who's immune, gather plasma samples and use them to treat the infected.

I heard on NPR tonight that Trump had called the South Korean president and asked for shipments of as much unspecified gear as they could spare. What he asked for was not released, tests maybe? Respirator production? I don't have a problem with asking an ally for help but it grates to have to be begging for the United States.

    It's not quite that simple.

Testing isn't just done for the patient. It is done to help track the virus.

I'm for stopping it up front, then sort out the tracking in the debrief.
Let's err on the side of caution until we get this thing on the ropes.

This is an MD, PhD, Ebola expert. The kind of people we used to have on TV.
I'm not citing Don Lemon, here.
If we're not going to get the tests, then creative go-arounds will be discovered.
Right in keeping with the history of the scientific method.
