He looked like he was day dreaming about Mar-A-Lago every time Fauci was at the podium yesterday.

He IS going to come out of this as a hero to his idiotic base. When it's over, economic activity is going to roar back, he's going to claim he spurred record growth and they're going lap it up like a dog eating its own vomit.

Don't be too sure of that economic activity prediction. So much of our economy is small service business activity now. Many of those businesses that are now closed aren't going to reopen.

This country was already screeching into a recession before this.

And until there is a vaccine, austerity will be the name of the game for the majority of the country that didn’t vote for the moron. No way his base — which will take its own economic hit from all this — can spend willy-nilly and make up for that.

Restaurants, malls, car dealerships, grocery stores, bars, comedy clubs, movie theaters, all the things we normally do for entertainment on the weekends are going to surge when this is over. Employment and the markets will rise. They don't have to return to pre-corona levels of activity. Hell, the market won't even need to set any single day records. It'll go up 700 points, he'll call it the biggest gain in DJI history (it won't be), boast like hell about how he alone was able to create this "surge" by curing coronavirus himself, and they are going to fucking eat it up because they got an extra $1,200 in their pockets and they can finally go back outside.

By the time we get to go outside, that $1200 will be long gone. And while I'm sure many people will flock to those activities, I am equally sure many won't. Gonna be a damn long time before I go to a bar or a movie theater, whether they're open or not.

And if this thing comes roaring back in fall the way a few are suggesting it might it will tamp down any gains.

That's assuming 20 percent of the nation isn't unemployed by then. And that those places are able to reopen immediately.

This is going to be the worst month in American history. Thousands of dead a day, with most of us confined to our homes and damn anxious every time we have to go outside for food or medicine. It is impossible to predict how the awful combination of complete boredom and tremendous anxiety we're all living with will affect consumer behavior or political behavior. We have no priors for this.
