The NCAA is going to be so mad at Coronavirus, they're going to put the flu on probation.

The quote from the Central Florida AD — to paraphrase, "We were thinking of building new facilities and spending a bunch more money on the football program ... we're rethinking that" — reminds me of all those grandiose subdivision proposals that were rarin' to go in 2008, only to have the plug pulled at the last minute. "Ghost subdivisions" were everywhere, with many foundations already poured. They sat vacant for years or were never built.

As Lugnuts noted, this issue of "overbuilding" in college sports was due for a reckoning anyway; the pandemic just forced everyone to deal with it now rather than "eventually."

im going to politely disagree with this. If the vaccine is 18 months away, that’s not feasible. My guess is it comes down to how soon we can do mass testing with quick results

I agree with Elliotte. The mass, efficient testing is the key. Society cannot continue to be shut down until a vaccine is approved.

There are sadly no indications mass testing is on the way anytime soon. And by soon, I mean "in 2020."

These plans to reopen sports in weird settings raises a tough question for media folks. Do you send your reporters into the mix to cover games if they might be exposed to the virus? And if MLB decamps to Arizona for five months, can your budget afford to send them anyway?

Are we really going to do this with sports leagues firing it back up again? Do these assholes not know how much the average ballplayer spits, or how many people it requires to put on a major-league event? It's not going to be like rolling the ball out into the middle of the gym floor.

Example #1 - the nfl draft.

Did anyone need first round picks to be boated to the stage on the fountain lakes at Bellagio?

If I find someone who is not going to watch the NFL draft because picks won't be boated to the stage, I found an asshole.
