He was making a lot of money and he deleted the tweet. I think he regretted it.

Has Maven made any other big-name hires besides Pat Forde? Seems like they have just about shed a full magazine's worth of talent at this point.

He didn't have it coming. I did expect the tweet would trigger something not good.

HE makes a lot of money. Johnny the simpleton Maven blogger on a 1099 is probably making 20k to get abused by some jerkoff for not writing enough clickbait

In a way I sort of felt his tweet was sticking up for all who were still there, but it might have been selfish. He overall doesn't come across like that on social media, though. That said, he likely knew what would happen when he put it out there.

Also, it's a dick move for Maven to say how much he makes. I don't think that's unsurprising considering who they are, but it's still a dick move. They can fire him for all the reasons they want and can use his salary to justify it but they don't need to make it public.

If I was making 350k and told to take a 30 percent reduction permanently I would absolutely go out kicking and screaming about it. You all would too. Let’s be real here.

Right. I would starve to death on $245k, especially when my wife was probably only chipping in twice that much on top of it. Dude would have been making the combined salary of a midsize metro daily sports staff after the reduction. He comes off here as a complete jackass. And at a time when most journos I know are either on the street or on the brink, the optics are awful. We expect this shit from the numbnut publishers, not scribes in primo gigs.

I would bet this to be true. He was standing up for people who might not have had the voice he did....and it bit him in the ass.

Add me to the list of people who find the salary-shamers disgraceful. I've never had a problem with people who made more than me. You get what you negotiate.

Some of you people hate seeing anybody make money if you’re not. It’s ridiculous.

Same guy who had no problem eliminating open locker rooms because players stop to see him in mixed zones.

i dont think hes wrong to go against maven but hes out of touch with your basic middle tier segment of the business

So he should take a 30% pay cut forever not just through the pandemic?

Would this make the middle tier feel better?

Middle tier guys better hope he was right about not needing locker access, cuz they're never getting back in the locker room.
