The reason California's numbers are lower than Michigan's is precisely because of the steps California took that you have been whining about for weeks. You know this.

It's precisely because California is a port state with a massive population and heavy international travel we are seeing fewer deaths. Health officials took early cases seriously early because we were bringing people home from China. California knew this was coming and took steps early to mitigate the damage.

We limited interactions earlier than everyone. We shut things down earlier than everyone. You would not have been idiotic to guess California would have seen more cases and deaths than the rest of the country, but the annoying practices of sheltering in place for a month has without a doubt saved lives.
