Will COVID-19 be the needle that finally bursts the sports bubble?

"I've got good news for you America - we are kicking the coronavirus' ass!" (He actually said that on-air).

Seriously - I understand his audience isn't really sophisticated - but Travis is terrible. He's always gonna be the kid who doesn't wait 15 minutes after eating to go swimming, who doesn't look both ways, the guy who makes you miss your flight because he spends 20 minutes arguing with the TSA guy about shoes and laptops being perfectly fine.

Who better to discuss matters of public health than the man who insisted he be allowed to fly commercial with his children and their head lice?

People who take Clay Travis seriously are dumber than Clay Travis.

I'm guessing they were considering this for weeks or months and decided the virus was a convenient reason to do it now. When it announced the execution of its wrestling program, Old Dominion acknowledged it had hired consultants a while ago. Cincinnati statement doesn't say if the program was under threat of execution before the crisis.
But as others have said, this gives ADs the permission to do what they've long wanted to do in many cases.

If the floodgates do open and program-whacking becomes widespread, the NCAA needs to consider emergency legislation to trim the greatest amounts of excess weight in college sports: the bloated football staff. No more "analysts" or third-string social media recruiting directors.

That's not the NCAA's job to clean up, but one would think athletic departments will be forced to make those kind of cuts when the booster money slows.

FBS programs are required to maintain 14 sports. Will be curious to see if the NCAA considers waiving that requirement.

The NCAA can't regulate salaries -- it lost a massive class-action matter 25 years ago over the restricted-earnings position -- but it does have bylaws regulating the size of coaching staffs. I'm guessing they made new law to allow these analysts. If so, they can simply rescind the law.

At Alabama? We'll need a lot more deaths before Saban loses even one clipboard minder.

It will also be interesting to see if Title Nine requirements are enforced.

One of the best changes to NCAA sports that could happen would be eliminating the "indepedent" foundations that often take up the slack for the university for coaching salaries. Yeah, yeah, the university is only paying the football coach $100,000 ... but he's getting $3.4 million from the foundation.
