A Gallup poll showed only 20 percent of those surveyed would rush right back into normal activities if stay-home orders lifted. Rest would wait to see if there were then more virus cases. In other words, "you first."

That's the crux of the problem for those who currently clog the undrained swamp in Washington D.C.: Returning society to "normal" requires sufficient testing (if not a vaccine) for COVID-19, and those things require the trust and investment in science.

Trump and the Republicans who eagerly jumped on his bandwagon owe their elected positions to discrediting science, and educated policy decisions in general.

There's a museum in Grapevine, Tex., with a radio from Pitcairn Island stenciled with the name of one of Fletcher Christian's descendants on it.

"Normal activities" is a broad term.

More than 20 percent would go to a hair salon.
More than 20 percent would go to a restaurant.
A much smaller number would go to a sporting event, concert or crowded downtown parade or festival.

You're "cheating death" just as much grabbing frozen onion rings at the grocery as you are eating them at your favorite hangout.
