I said how it could be done, not if it could practically be done

We have to reach the threshold for herd immunity first.

Otherwise the virus spirals out of control and kills a lot of us.

So we need testing. And eventually a vaccine. And patience.

I think more of us die with 30% unemployment.

Half of America owns a gun. I don't want to see 30% of them without food to eat.

If we reach herd immunity (say 50 percent of the population gets this and that does the trick), at a 1 percent death rate, it means between 1.5 million and 2 million Americans dead. If we get that herd immunity in a way in which we haven't mitigated the spread, the number of dead people will be higher than that, because our overwhelmed healthcare system as the virus sweeps through the country will contribute to a magnitude of greater deaths.

If we buy enough time to get an effective vaccine, that many people may not have to die.

Herd immunity taking care of this is a worst case scenario. On a spectrum, a somewhat effective anti-viral or other drugs would be next. An effective vaccine would be best. That isn't going to happen very quickly.

Brazil's Rio governor test positive. He opposes Bolsonaro's crazy approach.

So, it might come down to herd immunity vs herd mentality?

    I’ll bet the “over.”

And some people might say staying inside like this for 15 more months is an alarmist reaction, too.

I could live with people being in groups of 10. No larger. When someone has it, they get tested and are reported. People are notified they were with someone with COVID.

At some point in all this, people will get it and recover and hopefully be able to move around more freely.

Now if people who had it get it again, we're fucked.

Groups of 10 means for 15 or 18 months, or two summers...
    No sports
    Maybe no school buses
    No church and no communion
    Schools would be totally different
Day cares would be totally different, possible a single person with 3-4 kids
    Take out food
    No movie theaters
    No amusement parks
    No public pools
    No hotels
    No concerts
    No festivals

Honestly, I'm cool with all that.

With infection and death still clearly on the table, the fact that you're still willing to take that risk is mind-boggling.

Any religion that refuses to understand this does not need a following.

No one is suggesting we shelter in place for 15 months.

Smart people are looking for solutions that combine reasonable restrictions with widespread standard C19 testing.

Alarmism is suggesting 30% of the US population will start a shooting war to feed themselves.
