The LAT NHL piece linked above makes a good point I hadn't thought of: Most of these leagues have lots of foreign players. How are they going to get here without it being an enormous headache?

Depends on the age, but there's a lot of technical training that can be done at home with just a ball and a bit of open space.

Kind of old news. The word's been out on ivermectin for about two weeks. Ivermectin is used as dewormer for livestock, and the farm and ranch stores around me have pulled every bit of it off the shelves to keep yokels from dosing up.

SMH that they have to do that, and thumbs up for their being aware enough to get in front of it.

I don't believe too many of the NHL players are not in the city where their teams are located. I'm pretty sure the league and the union advised the players to stay close by and isolate themselves.

NHL is going to run it out as far as they can. The Olympics was postponed, so they would still have their TV money from NBC. They are in financial peril. Midway through the year the league was expecting to raise the cap by at least a few million, now they would be looking at potentially at a significant cap reduction without that money.

And some teams like Toronto has like $60+ million in bonuses to dish out this summer. With a big cap reduction they will be playing minor leaguers at the league minimum to fill half that roster.

NHL gave the go-ahead for their international players to go home if they wanted to. Not sure how many of them did, but the option was there.

What the heck are the NHL and NBA optimistically hoping for at this stage? It's time.

There won’t be a cap reduction. They will agree to the cap staying the same and probably allow a buyout.
