"History has shown that you can be a brilliant student and become president. It has also shown you can be a racist class clown and become president. Don't be in the second group. They cause way too much damage."

That seems premature. It may be realistic, but why announce that far out now?

It can easily be walked back if circumstances warrant. Otherwise, it's a statement that they're looking at it as a longer term threat than, say, May 1st.

Seems like the flip side of announcing end dates and restart dates knowing you'll have to move them back.

What does worse to the psyche of those affected? Being told, for example, schools will reopen April 17 and then pushing it back to August? Or saying no large gatherings until June 2021 and then pulling it back to, say, Jan. 1, 2021?

FB, Inc. events that involve more than 50 people are most certainly conferences that require months-out reservations. So it makes sense that if you're pretty certain things are going to take 12+ months to get to a vaccine and you think that's what's going to return things to somewhat normal (as most experts say) then why not make the announcement?

I have a fiancee, and our date was initially June 28 - Obviously, that's looked pretty dim for a while now, but we didn't want to postpone without having a clear backup date. The ceremony is in Massachusetts, so essentially the options were August through October, switching to an indoor venue, or just going for 2021. Since I can't imagine many of our friends being alllll that comfortable with air travel this year, we just pushed to July 2021. It sucks, but, we'll manage. (As long as we don't kill each other over frozen pizza preparation and lawn maintenance in the ensuing year.)

Four of my good friends who run small law firms have applied for the loans and 3 have been approved. Meanwhile, the wife of another friend in the same social circle applied for a loan for her preschool on the same day and has heard nothing back. So she’s funding all of her employees despite the fact that she’s making no money while the lawyers are all still working.
