My sense tells me that if the election were tomorrow, he'd get trounced. No matter who he is running against, even someone as polarizing and disliked as Hilary Clinton would win this time around. 30 percent of people will vote for him, because America is a sad place populated by way too many ignoramuses who buy into any racist, xenophobic or nationalistic messages, and are too eager to be roped in by ridiculous economic scapegoating. There is no changing those people. Another 15 percent or so who voted for him with trepidations have been disgusted by what they have gotten, and they will vote for anyone else. On top of it, some new people are going to be inspired to vote just to vote against him.

A lot of people will see Joe Biden as the same bullshit politician who they were tired of before Trump. But it doesn't matter. He doesn't need to "hammer home" any message or try to convince people of what they have seen for themselves for the last 3 years. Biden just has to avoid screwing it up. Americans are stupid and the Emperor was able to walk around naked for a silly long time. But the child in the crowd has already made it OK for people to acknowledge that he has no clothes.

There is the matter of the electoral college, which may make it look closer than it is. In the popular vote, it will be an absolute trouncing. The electoral vote will be a bit closer, but not as close as a lot of people might guess.

Just remember these things from 2016
Clinton got more votes, so a majority of the U.S. didn't want him.*
The states that flipped the election for Trump saw lower voter turnout compared to 2008 or 2012. So the idiots had a disproportionate voice.
The flipped states that cost Clinton the election saw an uptick in votes for a third party, particularly Jill Stein.

So don't worry about the dumbasses who want a dictator over democracy. Focus on whether the Dems can turn out the vote and if the Burnie Bros actually want to see Trump defeated.

We had a blue wave in 2018. Wisconsin's Supreme Court seat went progressive despite active voter suppression. The economy is shit right now, traditionally a bad sign for incumbents. Trump's response to the outbreak really has been needlessly terrible and cost American lives. Democratic governors really have been the face of measured leadership (I'll concede a handful of Republican states that are not in the South).

*Yes I know the reason Clinton won the popular vote was a result of her margins in New York and California.

Trump Officials Tell WaPo Coronavirus Plan is To Shield Himself From Blame

But that's what he's been doing for three years now (hence is uniquely stable (if moribund) poll numbers - has there ever been a President whose approval has budged this little during his Administration?) He creates problems, then "fixes" them and expects credit. Trade, kids in cages, etc. I think you are viewing this as a "normal" presidency where such norms like accountability, ethics, and human decency are standard. With this Presidency, America went the Spirit Airlines route and decided those things were "frills." Yes, he should be hammered for the worst response of any developed nation, there will be books published about this debacle which actually sums up the Presidency very neatly. Getting rid of experts, replacing them with sycophants (if replacing them at all), gutting needed departments or not listening to them and misplaced priorities leading to omnishambles. This has been an ongoing car crash since Jan. '17 and we haven't even had time to assess the damage because we're still hearing screeching tires heading in our direction.

First question at his campaign briefing tonight should be: “big gatherings of people will result in people dying. why are you promoting ideas and groups that are dangerous and will set the timeline for winning this “war” back by months”
After he denies it: “what does this tweet mean then?”

In Trump's defense, he was talking about those state's chronicly underperforming college football teams and not because they are swing states with Democratic governors.

Because of this Michigan bullshit, it will be replicated by dumbass nation in other states (who have plenty of free time right now). And hospitals will have to set up perimeters to limit how close these assholes can get and ensure the hospital personnel can get in. Or just keep all the essential people inside the hospital. What a fucking country.

Be careful. All across the intertoobs today, the ban hammer is coming hard and fast against any suggestions that the MAGGATS (and particularly king Fatfuck) sthould be dealt with anything beyond firm frowns of disapproval. It's like Susan Collins has been appointed czar of message board etiquette.
