His face went into the steering wheel with enough force to bend it. The steering wheel was metal. He wore an open face helmet.

I haven't watched any of these and likely won't, it's just not my thing, but is the iRacing better than the real product? Seems like the undercurrent of every Cup race for years has been a chorus of drivers saying the cars aren't fun to drive, the package for X track isn't any good, guys can't pass, etc., and whether true or not it's just obnoxious.

IIRC, it was the Orlando Sentinel (who Ed worked for then, right?) that had the prolonged battle for photos. I think the paper said along the way that it wasn't fighting to publish them but to understand the cause of death, which sounded a little nuts. As mentioned, it seemed quite obvious.

It’s a mostly accurate representation of the real product, except that the handling and car setups have been locked down to make things easier for all involved. The iRacing IROC short-course off-road race Wednesday on Fox Sports was awesome, even though some very good Cup drivers were clearly out of their element (and would also be out of their element if they’d run the real thing). The Talladega NASCAR Invitational race tomorrow should be on Fox and Fox Sports 1.

I actually have the iRacing 24 Hours of Nurburgring streaming on my TV right now — it’s all GT3-, Porsche Cup-, GT4- and TCR-class cars, and it’s been fun to watch. The Valvoline-endorsed drivers from some of the top series are invading the SCCA’s esports Super Tour at Watkins Glen a bit later today, and SCCA sets that up like a club racing weekend with supporting amateur classes to go with the top race (which I think is supposed to be the Touring Car class).

The iRacing software only runs on Windows, which is the only thing preventing me from doing something expensive and dumb. That off-road race Wednesday was fun.

The Big One has been effectively simulated.

There was some guy with a website at the time going after the autopsy photos as well. Orr, Bonnett and then Earnhardt.

Jayski ran a lot of stuff about him. Can’t remember the guy’s name.

Just put Talladega permanently on the sim, so when a car goes into the stands it only kills simulated spectators.

Additional problems with sim racing may include your daughter wielding a TV remote.

Interesting that Ganassi supposedly asked Carl Edwards and he declined. He's kept a pretty low profile since retiring, no?
