People most in favor of a the ideal solution of long-term social isolation and a national shutdown are, by and large, those that actually do only need to go out once every couple of weeks for groceries and such.

Most everyone else will not be able to successfully do this on a long-term, every-day basis. It just won't be done. Can anyone honestly see people in this country going to work, every day, wearing masks and gloves, and not getting within six feet of anybody, over a prolonged amount of time? And that's just speaking of those that actually still are going to work. Those that aren't are causing, and dealing with, a whole other set of problems that also will need to be solved. In short, those that could do this over very many months, or years, are only the ones who don't actually have to, either because they don't need to go out, or they can otherwise afford to not go to work.

Even at the cost of deaths, there is a limit to what people will do, or feel like they can tolerate doing -- especially if deaths are going to happen, anyway. People get fatalistic after awhile. They're tolerating all this right now because we are all hoping it is not going to go on for too long.

But what if it does? A no-end-in-sight scenario, simply put, will not end well, and will not be feasible, even if it means people dying.

There will come a point where people will say that to themselves, and take their chances, and just go about their business, anyway. I think that's the view of any actual protestors.

The governor here is rolling out a very, very soft reopening starting on Monday, though his plan has been muddled and handled haphazardly. They're calling it "Safer at Home." You're not required to stay at home, but it's highly encouraged.

Some retail stores can reopen with curbside only on Monday. Tattoo parlors, dog grooming, salons, real estate home showings (but no open houses) and those retail stores can reopen inside buildings on Friday the 1st. Businesses can have up to 50 percent of workers in the office with proper distancing starting Monday the 4th, but telecommuting is highly encouraged. Restaurants and bars have to stay closed.

Well, six Denver-area counties came out yesterday and basically told the governor, yeah, no, and extended their stay-at-home orders until Friday, May 8. So did one in the mountains west of Denver, where the majority of the state's casinos are at.

But 45 minutes to the north, a county said it's going the opposite direction and that it will loosen restrictions beyond what the governor has said will be allowed and will allow any business to reopen on Monday -- including restaurants and bars. Which of course, the governor had a fit about.

Exactly.

Multiply the number of plans at the municipal and county and state and regional and national and international levels and you get some idea of the welter of contradictory instructions and restrictions we'd face.

"Too big" or "too many people" for national planning prolongs our medical and economic misery while addressing neither.
