The "equivalencies" are in the voters, not the politicians.

Starman and goalmouth and 'yab and the rest of the "hang 'em by piano noose and kill all the Crackers" crowd are no better than the reprobates at Trump rallies. They happen to support a candidate who's not the worst president ever. Mighty high bar there.

You are correct. And lashing out at Trump voters and calling them stupid crackers, instead of giving them a viable alternative or getting your base out to vote, has always worked so well in the past.

How come the GOP is allowed to openly bash liberals - "They hate America!" "Tide Pods!" - but Democrats aren't allowed to say that some people who vote Republican are deplorable?

You're absolutely "allowed" to say it.

Just be prepared to deal with the consequences if it turns a segment of voters off.

And Rush Limbaugh saying liberals hate America is one thing. The Democratic candidate for President of the United States denigrating voters is something else.

Well, of course she was right. If there's one thing Trump's taught us, it's that many people like being assholes, and that's why they like him.
