Gotta pivot quickly when the nation is full of empty hospital beds and laid-off health care workers in the middle of the greatest pandemic of our lifetimes.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a pivot. But the buying of time was never the “message” of flattening the curve.

It's getting to be obvious how this is going to play out in the US. The virus will be allowed to run its course through fecklessness, greed and apathy. Hundreds of thousands more will die, quite possibly including high risk group yours truly. As predicted by every public health expert and economist in the land, the economy will crater into depression as a result. Neither the epidemic nor the depression will end for years, because halting either would require profound changes in a society that is incapable of same. We are cracking up over being required to stay home for six weeks. Confronting mass death and mass unemployment is beyond us.

Except they don't, because you have Barr running around threatening litigation against any governor who "goes too far," whatever the fuck that means.

That meant nothing. It was bullshit to make the boss happy. What are the feds gonna do, sent the 101st Airborne to forcibly open and then operate Joe's Tavern and Lily's Hair Salon?

This is the strength in numbers / collective bargaining factor. If one guy dressed in militia garb and carrying a sign about freedum in one hand and an AR15 in the other tries to enter a government building, he gets arrested without incident. If 25 of them try, they skate because of the increased probability of carnage.
